Your Voice Matters | April ‘24

It’s already April! Can you believe it?!

Last month I had the opportunity to speak to over 5,000 students up and down the I - 5 corridor and than in southeast Washington, in Walla Walla. I had the opportunity to speak to educators in Washington, Oregon, and California.

As we enter a new month, I want to encourage you to practice being grateful, even and especially when things are hard. I want to encourage you to practice kindness with your colleagues and with all those who serve you - baristas, flight attendants, postal workers, etc. Kindness is free, and it makes such a huge difference for people.

Lastly, I have some homework for you. March Madness brought with it some controversy, particularly with regard to race. If you have not been following the women’s tournament, please google: Utah women’s basketball.  How would you have responded had this happened to a group of young people you were supporting/leading? Where did the NCAA fail these young people and this coach? What could the coach have done differently?

What can you do when you witness an incident or hear words that could potentially cause harm to people around you? Your voice matters. Use it.

Let’s make April a great one!
